‘ছন্দ’ শব্দটি সংস্কৃত ‘ছন্দस्/ছন্দ’ (বেদীয় ছন্দ, মাত্রা-ব্যবস্থা/ছন্দোবদ্ধ রীতি) থেকে বাংলা ‘ছন্দ’ এবং তার উপর লোকেটিভ বিভক্তি ‘-এ’ যোগে ‘ছন্দে’ রূপটি গঠিত

The Bengali base word ‘ছন্দ’ comes from Sanskrit ‘छन्दस्/छन्द’ (Vedic metre; a system of prosodic measure), and ‘ছন্দে’ is formed by adding the locative ending ‘-এ’ meaning ‘in/within metre or rhythm’
