ফারসি ‘ওকালত’ (প্রতিনিধিত্ব/আইনগত কর্তৃত্ব) থেকে ‘ওকালতি’ এবং বাংলা ক্রিয়া ‘করা’ যুক্ত হয়ে গঠিত; অর্থে আদালতে প্রতিনিধিত্ব বা আইন পেশায় কাজ করা বোঝায়
