পৃথিবীর বায়ুমণ্ডলের স্ট্র্যাটোস্ফিয়ারে থাকা ওজোন (O₃) গ্যাসের তুলনামূলকভাবে বেশি ঘনত্বযুক্ত অঞ্চল, যা সূর্যের UV-B ও UV-C অতিবেগুনি রশ্মির উল্লেখযোগ্য অংশ শোষণ করে জীবজগতকে সুরক্ষা দেয়
