আরবি ‘انتقال’ (ইন্তিকাল) শব্দ থেকে; অর্থ ‘স্থানান্তর/অবস্থান পরিবর্তন’, যা ধর্মীয় ব্যবহারে ‘দুনিয়া থেকে পরলোকে গমন’ অর্থে প্রতিষ্ঠিত
