Definition

Normativeness refers to the degree to which a statement, rule, theory, or practice is concerned with norms—i.e., standards of what should be done, what is right/wrong, or what is acceptable—rather than merely describing what is the case. It is often contrasted with descriptiveness in philosophy, ethics, law, and social theory.
