যে অবস্থা বা গুণে কোনো কথা, নিয়ম, চুক্তি, ইতিহাস ইত্যাদি লিখিত রূপে নথিভুক্ত থাকে না; যা প্রচলন, স্মৃতি, মৌখিক ঐতিহ্য বা অনানুষ্ঠানিক বোঝাপড়ার মাধ্যমে টিকে থাকে—তাকে অলিখিততা বলা হয়
