‘খবর’ শব্দটি আরবি ‘خبر’ (সংবাদ/বার্তা) থেকে বাংলা ভাষায় এসেছে; ‘দিল’ হলো বাংলা ক্রিয়া ‘দেওয়া’-এর অতীত রূপ—দুটিতে মিলে ‘খবর দেওয়া’ অর্থ ‘সংবাদ জানানো’
‘Khobor’ entered Bengali from Arabic ‘khabar’ meaning ‘news/message’; ‘dil’ is the past form of the Bengali verb ‘deoa’ (to give). Together ‘khobor deoa’ means ‘to give news/to inform’
