Definition
In modern English, firths are usually coastal inlets or sea arms (common in Scotland), often where a river meets the sea; some older spellings/related forms (frith) can also mean peace or refuge, and rare dialect senses refer to woodland, brushwood hedges, or a fish weir made of wattled branches.
