From Latin dactylus, from Ancient Greek dáktylos meaning “finger, toe”; later also used in Greek/Latin prosody for the metrical foot.
लैटिन dactylus से, जो प्राचीन यूनानी dáktylos (“उंगली/पैर की उंगली”) से आया; बाद में यूनानी/लैटिन छंद-विज्ञान में इसी शब्द का उपयोग गुरु–लघु–लघु वाले छंद-पद के लिए भी होने लगा।
Definition
Dactylus refers to a finger or toe (especially in anatomical or zoological contexts), and also to a metrical foot in poetry with the pattern stressed–unstressed–unstressed (— ⏑ ⏑).
Dactylus का अर्थ उंगली या पैर की उंगली (विशेषकर शरीर-विज्ञान/प्राणि-विज्ञान के संदर्भ में) होता है; साथ ही काव्य-छंद में यह एक छंद-पद (metrical foot) भी है, जिसका क्रम होता है: गुरु–लघु–लघु (— ⏑ ⏑)।
