From Greek autopsia meaning “seeing with one’s own eyes,” from autos “self” + opsis “sight,” later used in medical sense for post-mortem examination.
यूनानी शब्द autopsia से, जिसका अर्थ है “अपनी आँखों से देखना”; यह autos (“स्वयं”) + opsis (“दृष्टि/देखना”) से बना है, और बाद में इसका चिकित्सकीय अर्थ शवपरीक्षा/पोस्टमॉर्टम के लिए प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
An autopsy is a systematic medical examination of a corpse, usually performed by a pathologist, to determine the cause and manner of death and to study disease or injury; it may include external inspection, internal dissection, and laboratory tests.
ऑटोप्सी (शवपरीक्षा) मृत शरीर की एक व्यवस्थित चिकित्सकीय जाँच है, जो सामान्यतः पैथोलॉजिस्ट द्वारा की जाती है, ताकि मृत्यु का कारण और प्रकार (कैसे हुई) पता चल सके तथा बीमारी या चोट का अध्ययन किया जा सके; इसमें बाहरी निरीक्षण, आंतरिक विच्छेदन और प्रयोगशाला परीक्षण शामिल हो सकते हैं।
