Western শব্দের সঙ্গে -ism (মতবাদ/প্রবণতা/বৈশিষ্ট্য বোঝায়) প্রত্যয় যোগে গঠিত; সংস্কৃতি, রাজনীতি ও সমাজ বিষয়ে আলোচনায়—বিশেষত ১৯শ–২০শ শতক থেকে—ব্যবহৃত হতে থাকে।
Definition
Westernism refers to the tendency to adopt, promote, or be influenced by Western culture, thought, institutions, or lifestyles, sometimes viewed neutrally (as cultural exchange/modernization) and sometimes critically (as cultural dominance or loss of local traditions).
‘ওয়েস্টার্নিজম’ বলতে পশ্চিমা (ইউরোপ/উত্তর আমেরিকা) সংস্কৃতি, চিন্তাধারা, প্রতিষ্ঠান, জীবনযাপন, রীতি-নীতি বা রুচি গ্রহণ, সমর্থন বা তার প্রভাবকে বোঝায়; কখনও এটি নিরপেক্ষভাবে (সাংস্কৃতিক বিনিময়/আধুনিকায়ন) এবং কখনও সমালোচনামূলকভাবে (সাংস্কৃতিক আধিপত্য বা স্থানীয় ঐতিহ্য ক্ষয়ের দৃষ্টিতে) ব্যবহৃত হয়।
