From Hindi/Urdu pagṛī (“turban”), via Anglo-Indian usage; also recorded as puggree.

হিন্দি/উর্দু ‘পাগড়ি’ (অর্থ: পাগড়ি/টারবান) শব্দ থেকে, অ্যাংলো-ইন্ডিয়ান ব্যবহারের মাধ্যমে; ‘puggree’ বানানটিও প্রচলিত ছিল।

Definition

A puggaree is a long strip of cloth wrapped around the crown of a hat or helmet, particularly a pith helmet, and it may hang down behind to protect the back of the neck from sun and heat.

পাগড়ি-সদৃশ একটি লম্বা কাপড়ের ফিতা যা টুপি বা হেলমেটের (বিশেষ করে পিথ হেলমেটের) উপরের অংশে পেঁচিয়ে বাঁধা হয়; অনেক সময় তা পেছনে ঝুলে গিয়ে ঘাড়ের পেছনকে রোদ ও গরম থেকে ছায়া দিয়ে রক্ষা করে।
