সংস্কৃত ধাতু ‘প্র-√বহ’ (বহন/বওয়া, বয়ে চলা) থেকে ‘প্রবাহ’ এবং তার সঙ্গে গুণবাচক প্রত্যয় ‘-মান’ যোগে ‘প্রবাহমান’ গঠিত
