যে ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু ধর্মীয়/সামাজিক বিধিনিষেধে স্পর্শ করা নিষিদ্ধ বলে গণ্য হয়; বিশেষত ঐতিহাসিকভাবে কিছু সম্প্রদায়কে বর্ণপ্রথাজনিত কারণে সমাজে ‘ছোঁয়াছুঁয়ি’ থেকে বঞ্চিত করতে এই শব্দ ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে
