ফারসি/আরবি উৎসের ‘দফা’ শব্দ থেকে বাংলা ‘দফা’; বাংলায় অর্থ বিস্তার করে ‘ধারা/অনুচ্ছেদ’ ও ‘পর্যায়/রাউন্ড’ অর্থে বহুল ব্যবহৃত
From the Persian/Arabic-derived word ‘daf‘a’; in Bengali it broadened in sense and is widely used to mean a ‘clause/section’ and also a ‘stage/round’.

‘দফা’ বলতে কোনো লেখা/আইনে ধারাবাহিকভাবে নম্বরযুক্ত অনুচ্ছেদ বা ধারা বোঝায়; আবার কোনো কাজ বা ঘটনার একটি পর্যায়, রাউন্ড, পালা বা ‘একবারে’ সংঘটিত অংশকেও বোঝায় (যেমন: এক দফায়, প্রথম দফা)
‘Dofa’ refers to a numbered clause/section in a document or law; it also means a stage/round/turn of an activity or event—i.e., a single bout or occurrence (e.g., at one go, first round).
