বাংলা ধাতু/মূল শব্দ ‘চমক’ (হঠাৎ বিস্ময়/ঝাঁকুনি/আকস্মিকতা) থেকে ‘-ানি’ প্রত্যয় যোগে গঠিত কথ্য রূপ; ‘চমক’ শব্দটি সংস্কৃত ‘চমৎকার’–জাত ধ্বনি-ভাব থেকে বিকশিত অর্থধারার সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত বলে ধরা হয়
