From Latin sacrificium (‘performance of sacred rites’, from sacer ‘sacred’ + facere ‘to make/do’), via Old French sacrifice; later used as both noun and verb in English.
लैटिन sacrificium (अर्थ: ‘पवित्र कर्म/अनुष्ठान का संपादन’; sacer ‘पवित्र’ + facere ‘करना/बनाना’) से, पुरानी फ़्रेंच sacrifice के माध्यम से; अंग्रेज़ी में बाद में संज्ञा और क्रिया दोनों रूपों में प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
Sacrifice is the act of giving up something valuable (time, comfort, money, life, or advantage) for a higher goal, duty, or benefit; it can also mean a religious offering to a god, or selling something at a loss.
Sacrifice का अर्थ है किसी बड़े उद्देश्य, कर्तव्य या लाभ के लिए किसी मूल्यवान चीज़ (समय, आराम, पैसा, जीवन या लाभ) का त्याग करना; यह किसी देवता को दी जाने वाली धार्मिक आहुति/भेंट, या घाटे में बेचने के अर्थ में भी प्रयोग होता है।
