Origin & History
From early modern English quibble (16th–17th c.), of uncertain origin; possibly related to dialectal words meaning ‘evade’ or ‘trifle,’ and early senses included ‘pun’.
आरंभिक आधुनिक अंग्रेज़ी ‘quibble’ (16वीं–17वीं शताब्दी) से; मूल अनिश्चित है। संभवतः कुछ क्षेत्रीय (डायलेक्ट) शब्दों से संबंध रहा जिनका अर्थ ‘टालना/बच निकलना’ या ‘तुच्छ बात करना’ था; शुरुआती अर्थों में ‘पंच/शब्द-खेल’ भी शामिल था।
Definition
To raise small, often nitpicking objections or arguments—typically focusing on wording or insignificant details rather than the main issue; historically also meant a pun.
