From English pot + hole; 'pothole' originally referred to a deep hole or pit, later commonly used for holes in road surfaces (attested from the early 20th century).
अंग्रेज़ी के pot + hole से बना; 'pothole' पहले किसी गहरे गड्ढे/खड्डे के लिए प्रयुक्त होता था, बाद में यह विशेष रूप से सड़क की सतह में बनने वाले गड्ढों के अर्थ में प्रचलित हुआ (20वीं सदी की शुरुआत से प्रमाणित)।
Definition
Potholes are bowl-shaped holes or broken patches that develop in asphalt or concrete roads when water seeps in, the surface weakens (often with freeze–thaw or heat), and repeated vehicle pressure breaks the pavement. They can damage tires and suspension and increase accident risk.
पथहोल (सड़क के गड्ढे) कटोरे जैसी आकृति वाले गड्ढे या टूटी हुई जगहें होती हैं जो डामर/कंक्रीट की सड़क पर तब बनती हैं जब पानी अंदर चला जाता है, सतह कमजोर पड़ती है (अक्सर जमाव–पिघलाव या गर्मी के कारण), और वाहनों के लगातार दबाव से सड़क उखड़ जाती है। ये टायर व सस्पेंशन को नुकसान पहुँचा सकते हैं और दुर्घटना का खतरा बढ़ाते हैं।
