In the pipeline sense, pigging comes from “pig,” the name for the device sent through a pipeline; the term is used in engineering from the mid-20th century and is popularly explained as sounding like a squealing pig in early systems, though the exact origin is uncertain.

Pigging is a pipeline operation in which a tool called a “pig” is propelled through a pipe (usually by pressure) to remove deposits, verify internal condition (inspection pigging), separate different fluids (batching), or prepare the line for maintenance.
पिगिंग एक पाइपलाइन प्रक्रिया है जिसमें “पिग” नामक उपकरण को (आमतौर पर दाब/प्रेशर से) पाइप के भीतर चलाया जाता है ताकि जमाव/गंदगी हटाई जा सके, अंदरूनी स्थिति की जाँच की जा सके (इंस्पेक्शन पिगिंग), अलग-अलग द्रवों को अलग रखा जा सके (बैचिंग), या मेंटेनेंस के लिए लाइन तैयार की जा सके।
