लैटिन pigmentum (अर्थ: रंग/डाई) से, साथ में अंग्रेज़ी प्रत्यय -ation; “pigmentation” शब्द का प्रयोग वैज्ञानिक/चिकित्सीय अंग्रेज़ी में 17वीं–18वीं शताब्दियों से मिलता है।
Definition
Pigmentations are color changes or the presence of pigment in tissues (especially skin), which may be normal (e.g., tanning) or due to conditions such as melasma, inflammation, hormonal changes, or certain medicines.
पिग्मेंटेशन/वर्णकता का बहुवचन: ऊतकों (विशेषकर त्वचा) में वर्णक के कारण होने वाले रंग-परिवर्तन या रंग की उपस्थिति, जो सामान्य (जैसे धूप से टैन) भी हो सकती है या मेलाज़्मा, सूजन के बाद, हार्मोनल बदलाव, या कुछ दवाओं जैसी अवस्थाओं के कारण भी।
