Definition
Phenols are a class of aromatic organic compounds in which a hydroxyl group (–OH) is bonded directly to an aromatic ring (usually benzene); they are common in disinfectants, resins, dyes, and many natural products, and they tend to be weakly acidic compared with typical alcohols.
