लैटिन osculāns (osculārī “चूमना” का वर्तमान कृदंत), और osculum “चुंबन/चुम्बन” से; अर्थ ‘चूमने जैसा स्पर्श’ के रूप में गणित में विकसित हुआ।
Definition
In mathematics, an osculant curve or circle “kisses” another curve at a point by sharing the same tangent and matching the curve’s local behavior more closely than a simple tangent. Figuratively, it can mean closely corresponding to or closely approaching something.
गणित में, ऑस्कुलेंट वक्र/वृत्त किसी अन्य वक्र को एक बिंदु पर “चूमता” है—अर्थात उसी बिंदु पर वही स्पर्शरेखा (tangent) साझा करता है और केवल स्पर्शरेखा से भी अधिक निकटता से स्थानीय आकृति का मिलान करता है। रूपक रूप में इसका अर्थ किसी चीज़ के बहुत निकट अनुरूप होने या बहुत करीब पहुँचने से भी हो सकता है।
