Origin & History
From meteor + -oid, from Greek 'meteōros' meaning 'raised aloft, in the air' + the suffix '-oid' meaning 'resembling'; 'meteoroid' was coined in the 19th century for small bodies in space.
यह शब्द 'meteor' + '-oid' से बना है; 'meteor' का मूल यूनानी 'meteōros' (अर्थ: ऊपर उठा हुआ/आकाश में) से है और '-oid' का अर्थ 'सदृश/जैसा' होता है; 'meteoroid' शब्द 19वीं शताब्दी में अंतरिक्ष के छोटे पिंडों के लिए प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
Meteoroids are small pieces of rock or metal traveling through space; if they enter Earth’s atmosphere they produce a streak of light (a meteor), and if any part reaches the ground it is called a meteorite.
मीटियोरॉइड्स अंतरिक्ष में घूमने वाले चट्टान या धातु के छोटे टुकड़े होते हैं; यदि वे पृथ्वी के वायुमंडल में प्रवेश करें तो प्रकाश की रेखा (उल्का/मीटियर) बनाते हैं, और यदि उनका कोई भाग जमीन तक पहुँच जाए तो उसे उल्कापिंड (मीटियोराइट) कहा जाता है।
