From “massage” + “-ing”. “Massage” came into English (19th c.) from French massage, from French masser (“to massage”), ultimately related to Arabic massa (“to touch, feel”).

Definition
“Massaging” is the present participle/gerund of “massage.” It can mean physically rubbing and kneading muscles to relieve pain or tension. In a figurative sense, it can mean adjusting or reworking data/documents to make them clearer or more acceptable, and in a negative sense it can mean falsifying or manipulating figures/accounts.
