From the verb 'harrow' (to torment; also to break up soil with a harrow), from Old English 'heargian' in the sense 'to harry/devastate' and related Germanic roots; the agricultural sense comes from 'harrow' meaning a soil-breaking implement.

Definition
Something 'harrowing' is so upsetting or frightening that it feels traumatic and hard to forget; it can describe experiences, stories, journeys, or events. It can also (less commonly) mean connected to 'harrowing' land, i.e., using a harrow to break up and level soil.
'Harrowing' वह चीज़/अनुभव है जो इतना पीड़ादायक, भयावह या झकझोर देने वाला हो कि वह आघात (trauma) जैसा लगे और लंबे समय तक मन में बना रहे; यह अनुभव, कहानी, यात्रा या घटना के लिए कहा जाता है। कम प्रचलित अर्थ में यह खेत में 'हैरो' चलाकर मिट्टी को तोड़ने/समतल करने (harrowing) से संबंधित भी होता है।
