मध्य अंग्रेज़ी gourd से; यह पुरानी फ़्रेंच gourde से आया, और उसका स्रोत लैटिन cucurbita ‘गॉर्ड/कद्दूवर्गीय फल’ है।
Definition
A gourd is the fruit of various climbing or trailing plants; some gourds are eaten as vegetables, while others are grown mainly for their hard rind and, when dried, can be made into bowls, bottles, or musical instruments.
गॉर्ड बेलों पर उगने वाले कुछ पौधों का फल होता है; कुछ गॉर्ड सब्ज़ी की तरह खाए जाते हैं, जबकि कुछ को उनके कठोर छिलके के लिए उगाया जाता है और सुखाने पर उनसे कटोरे, बोतलें, बर्तन या वाद्य-यंत्र बनाए जा सकते हैं।
