From “folder” (< fold + -er), originally ‘something that folds’ and later a paper holder; computing sense developed with hierarchical file systems in the mid–late 20th century.
“Folder” शब्द “fold” (मोड़ना) + “-er” (करने वाला/उपकरण) से बना; शुरू में अर्थ ‘मोड़ने वाली चीज़/उपकरण’ था, बाद में कागज़ रखने वाली फाइल/कवर के लिए प्रयोग होने लगा; कंप्यूटिंग वाला अर्थ 20वीं सदी के मध्य–उत्तरार्ध में पदानुक्रमित फ़ाइल प्रणालियों के साथ विकसित हुआ।

“Folders” is the plural form of “folder.” It commonly refers to (1) a paper file holder used to keep documents together, often with a tab for labeling; (2) a computer directory that contains files and subfolders; less commonly, it can mean a person/machine that folds items or a folding knife.
