From figure (shape, representation) + head; originally referring to a carved figure at a ship’s head (prow), later extended metaphorically to a person who is the ‘head’ in name only.
figure (आकृति/प्रतिनिधित्व) + head (मुख/शीर्ष) से बना; पहले जहाज़ के आगे (प्रो) लगी तराशी हुई आकृति के लिए, बाद में रूपक रूप में उस व्यक्ति के लिए जिसका ‘मुखिया’ होना केवल नाम भर हो।
Definition
A person or leader who is publicly presented as being in charge but has little or no real authority, often used to give an organization a respectable image; also a decorative carved figure fixed to the front (prow) of a ship.
ऐसा व्यक्ति/नेता जिसे सार्वजनिक रूप से मुखिया दिखाया जाता है लेकिन उसके पास वास्तविक सत्ता बहुत कम या नहीं होती, अक्सर किसी संस्था को सम्मानजनक छवि देने के लिए; साथ ही जहाज़ के आगे (प्रो) पर लगा सजावटी तराशा हुआ पुतला/मूर्ति।
