From the practice of marking livestock’s ears for identification; later extended (mid-19th century) to mean “to designate or set aside,” especially in budgeting.
यह शब्द पशुओं की पहचान के लिए उनके कान पर निशान लगाने की प्रथा से आया; बाद में (मुख्यतः 19वीं सदी के मध्य) इसका अर्थ विस्तृत होकर खासकर बजट/धन को किसी उद्देश्य के लिए “निर्धारित/अलग रखना” हो गया।
Definition
To earmark something means to officially or clearly set it aside for a specific use (often money in budgets), or to mark an animal’s ear to show ownership.
Earmark का अर्थ है किसी चीज़ (अक्सर बजट/धन) को किसी खास उद्देश्य के लिए आधिकारिक या स्पष्ट रूप से अलग/निर्धारित करना; साथ ही किसी पशु के कान पर मालिकाना पहचान के लिए निशान लगाना।
