From the practice of marking livestock by cutting/notching the ears; later extended metaphorically to mean ‘to set aside or designate’.
पशुओं (विशेषकर भेड़ों) की पहचान के लिए कान काटकर/चीरा लगाकर निशान बनाने की प्रथा से; बाद में इसका रूपक अर्थ विकसित होकर ‘किसी विशेष उद्देश्य के लिए अलग रखना/निर्धारित करना’ हो गया।
Definition
Earmarks can mean physically marking an animal (traditionally by cutting/slitting the ear) to show ownership, and more commonly it means reserving or allocating funds/resources for a particular use.
Earmarks का अर्थ किसी जानवर (परंपरागत रूप से भेड़ आदि) की पहचान/स्वामित्व के लिए कान में निशान (काट/चीरा) लगाना भी हो सकता है, और आज के सामान्य उपयोग में किसी खास उद्देश्य के लिए धन/संसाधन को अलग रखना या निर्धारित/आवंटित करना होता है।
