From Latin dēgenerāre (“to decline from one’s kind”), from dē- (“away from”) + genus (“race, kind”); via French/Latin into English.
लैटिन dēgenerāre (“अपने मूल/प्रकार से गिर जाना/बिगड़ जाना”) से, जहाँ dē- (“से दूर”) + genus (“वंश/प्रकार”) है; फ्रेंच/लैटिन मार्ग से अंग्रेज़ी में आया।
Definition
Used to describe something or someone that has become worse, less effective, or morally/physically inferior compared to an earlier state; also used in biology for traits or structures that have become reduced or simplified.
किसी वस्तु/व्यक्ति के पहले की तुलना में गुणवत्ता, मूल्य, चरित्र या कार्यक्षमता में गिरावट आ जाना; पतित/भ्रष्ट होना। जीवविज्ञान में उन गुणों/संरचनाओं के लिए भी, जो समय के साथ घट या सरल हो गए हों।
