Definition
Decantation is the process of gently pouring off a clear liquid from above settled solids (sediment) or from one immiscible liquid layer to another vessel, leaving the heavier material behind. It is used in chemistry (separating mixtures), winemaking (separating wine from lees), and laboratory work.
डिकैन्टेशन वह प्रक्रिया है जिसमें बैठ चुके ठोस कणों (तलछट) के ऊपर से साफ़ द्रव को धीरे-धीरे दूसरे पात्र में उँडेला जाता है, या दो न मिलने वाले द्रवों की परतों में से ऊपर वाली परत को अलग पात्र में निकाला जाता है, ताकि भारी पदार्थ पीछे रह जाए। इसका उपयोग रसायन विज्ञान (मिश्रण अलग करना), वाइन बनाने में (लीज़/तलछट से वाइन अलग करना) और प्रयोगशाला कार्य में होता है।
