मध्य अंग्रेज़ी barrel से, जो पुरानी फ़्रेंच baril (“छोटा पीपा/कास्क”) से आया; इससे पहले की उत्पत्ति निश्चित नहीं मानी जाती।
Definition
A barrel is a big round container (often wooden or metal) used to store or carry liquids like oil, wine, or beer, or dry goods; it can also mean the standard quantity such a container holds, and it also refers to the tube of a firearm (gun barrel).
बैरल एक बड़ा बेलनाकार/गोल कंटेनर (अक्सर लकड़ी या धातु का) होता है जिसमें तेल, शराब, बीयर जैसे तरल या कुछ सूखे पदार्थ भंडारित/ढोए जाते हैं; यह ऐसे कंटेनर की मानक मात्रा के अर्थ में भी आता है, और हथियार में गोली निकलने वाली लंबी नली को भी “बैरल” (गन बैरल) कहा जाता है।
