Origin & History
From Greek antipodes (plural), from anti- ‘opposite’ + pous/podos ‘foot’, literally ‘with feet opposite’ (people imagined to stand with their feet opposite ours on the other side of the Earth).
ग्रीक ‘antipodes’ (बहुवचन) से, जहाँ ‘anti-’ का अर्थ ‘विपरीत’ और ‘pous/podos’ का अर्थ ‘पाँव’ है; शाब्दिक अर्थ ‘जिनके पाँव हमारे विपरीत हों’, यानी पृथ्वी के दूसरे छोर पर रहने वालों की कल्पना।
Definition
In general use, an antipode is the exact opposite of someone or something; in geography, it is a point on Earth directly opposite another point (connected by a straight line through the Earth’s center).
सामान्य प्रयोग में, 'antipode' किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु का बिल्कुल विपरीत (उल्टा) रूप/प्रतिरूप होता है; भूगोल में, यह पृथ्वी पर किसी बिंदु के ठीक सामने वाला बिंदु होता है (जिसे पृथ्वी के केंद्र से होकर जाने वाली सीधी रेखा जोड़ती है)।
