From Greek amnēstia (“forgetfulness”), via Latin and French amnistie, referring to an official “forgetting” of offenses.
यह शब्द यूनानी amnēstia (अर्थ: “भूलना/विस्मृति”) से आया है; लैटिन और फ़्रेंच amnistie के माध्यम से अंग्रेज़ी में पहुँचा, जिसका अर्थ अपराधों को आधिकारिक रूप से “भुला देना” (क्षमा कर देना) है।
Definition
Amnesties are official decisions—often by a government or authority—to pardon a group of people for certain offenses, usually political or immigration-related, and to stop prosecuting or punishing them for those past acts.
एमनेस्टी (सामूहिक क्षमादान) वे आधिकारिक निर्णय होते हैं—अक्सर सरकार या किसी प्राधिकरण द्वारा—जिनमें कुछ अपराधों (आमतौर पर राजनीतिक या आव्रजन-संबंधी) के लिए लोगों के एक समूह को माफ़ किया जाता है और उनके पिछले कृत्यों के लिए अभियोजन या दंड रोक दिया जाता है।
