From the verb siphon (via French siphon), ultimately from Latin siphon and Greek siphōn meaning “tube, pipe.” “Siphoning” is formed by adding -ing to the verb.

Siphoning is the process of transferring or removing liquid (or sometimes gas) from one container to another through a tube using pressure/gravity differences (a siphon); figuratively, it can mean secretly diverting or stealing funds, supplies, or information.
