From Latin sibilare (“to hiss, whistle”), via French sibilant and New Latin sibilantia; the English noun sibilance developed to mean ‘hissing quality of sound.’
লাতিন sibilare (“ফিসফিস/হিস্ করা, শিস দেওয়া”) থেকে; ফরাসি sibilant ও নিউ-লাতিন sibilantia হয়ে ইংরেজিতে এসেছে; পরে এর অর্থ দাঁড়ায় ‘ধ্বনির ফিসফিসে/হিস্-ধর্মী গুণ’।
Definition
Sibilance is a sharp, hissing, “s”-type sound heard when sibilant consonants (like s, sh, z, ch) are pronounced, and it often refers to an undesirable, overly bright hiss in microphones, recordings, or speech.
সিবিল্যান্স হলো তীক্ষ্ণ, ফিসফিসে “স”-ধরনের ধ্বনি, যা সিবিল্যান্ট ব্যঞ্জনধ্বনি (যেমন s, sh, z, ch) উচ্চারণে শোনা যায়; কথাবার্তা, মাইক্রোফোন বা রেকর্ডিংয়ে অতিরিক্ত ঝাঁঝালো হিস্ শব্দ (অনাকাঙ্ক্ষিত) বোঝাতেও এই শব্দটি ব্যবহৃত হয়।
