Definition
Ponding refers mainly to water collecting and remaining in a shallow pool (often on roads, roofs, fields, or low-lying land) or to the act of causing water to pool by blocking its flow (damming). In technical use (e.g., drainage/engineering), it can mean water that persists after rain for an extended period. Rarely, it is used as a variant/misspelling of 'pondering'.
'Ponding' বলতে সাধারণত পানি জমে অগভীর জলাধারের মতো স্থির হয়ে থাকা বোঝায় (যেমন রাস্তা, ছাদ, মাঠ বা নিচু জায়গায়), অথবা পানির প্রবাহ আটকে দিয়ে পানি জমিয়ে রাখার কাজ (বাঁধ দেওয়া)। প্রযুক্তিগত ক্ষেত্রে (ড্রেনেজ/ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং) বৃষ্টির পর দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে থাকা জমা পানিকেও বোঝাতে পারে। খুব কম ক্ষেত্রে এটি 'pondering' (ভাবনা করা) শব্দের বিকল্প/ভুল বানান হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
