From Hindi/Urdu nīlgāy (‘blue cow’), from nīl (‘blue’) + gāy (‘cow’).

হিন্দি/উর্দু ‘নীলগাই’ (অর্থ ‘নীল গরু/নীল গাভি’) থেকে এসেছে; ‘নীল’ (নীল রং) + ‘গাই’ (গরু/গাভি) — এই দুটি অংশের সমষ্টি।

Definition

Nilghais (plural of nilgai) are the largest Asian antelopes, native to the Indian subcontinent; they are sometimes called “blue bulls” because adult males have a bluish-gray coat.

নিলঘাই (nilgai-এর বহুবচন) এশিয়ার সবচেয়ে বড় হরিণজাতীয় অ্যান্টিলোপ, যা মূলত ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশে পাওয়া যায়; প্রাপ্তবয়স্ক পুরুষদের নীলচে-ধূসর লোমের কারণে একে অনেক সময় “নীল ষাঁড়”ও বলা হয়।
