Origin & History
From the verb “exoticize” + the noun-forming suffix “-ation”; “exoticize” comes from “exotic,” ultimately from Greek “exōtikós” meaning “from outside, foreign.” The term developed in critical cultural and postcolonial theory to describe the stereotyped portrayal of non-dominant cultures as exotic.
