সংস্কৃত ‘উত্তীর্ণ’ (উৎ + তীর্ণ) থেকে; ‘উৎ’ অর্থ উপরে/বেরিয়ে এবং ‘তীর্ণ’ অর্থ পার হওয়া/অতিক্রম করা—সেখান থেকে ‘অতিক্রম করে সফল হওয়া/পাশ করা’ অর্থে প্রচলিত

From Sanskrit ‘uttīrṇa’ (ut + tīrṇa): ‘ut’ meaning up/out and ‘tīrṇa’ meaning crossed/forded; hence the sense ‘having crossed over; succeeded/passed’

‘উত্তীর্ণ’ বলতে বোঝায় পরীক্ষায় বা কোনো মানদণ্ডের যাচাইয়ে সফলভাবে পাশ করা; পাশাপাশি কোনো বাধা, স্তর বা পর্যায় অতিক্রম করে পরবর্তী স্তরে উন্নীত হওয়াকেও বোঝায়
