বাংলা ‘রাঙা/রং’ মূল থেকে গঠিত; ‘রাঙা’ (রঞ্জিত, লালচে/বর্ণিত) শব্দে ক্রিয়াসূচক প্রত্যয় ‘-নো’ যুক্ত হয়ে ‘রাঙানো’—অর্থ ‘রঙিন করা/রঞ্জিত করা’

‘রাঙানো’ বলতে কোনো বস্তু, কাপড়, দেয়াল, ছবি ইত্যাদিতে রং লাগিয়ে তাকে রঙিন করা বা নতুনভাবে সাজিয়ে তোলা বোঝায়; পাশাপাশি ‘মন/আকাশ/গোধূলি’ ইত্যাদি প্রসঙ্গে রূপক অর্থেও ‘রঙে ভরে যাওয়া/আবিষ্ট হওয়া’ বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়
