সংস্কৃত ধাতু ‘প্লু/প্লব’ (ভাসা/বয়ে যাওয়া) থেকে গঠিত ‘প্লাব’ (বন্যা/প্লাবন) শব্দের সঙ্গে বাংলা বিশেষণসূচক প্রত্যয় ‘-ইত’ যোগে ‘প্লাবিত’ (প্লাবনে আক্রান্ত/আচ্ছাদিত)।
