‘মাপতে’ হলো বাংলা ধাতু ‘মাপ-’ (মাপা/পরিমাপ করা) থেকে গঠিত ‘মাপা’ ক্রিয়ার উদ্দেশ্যসূচক রূপ; এর সঙ্গে ‘-তে’ বিভক্তি/প্রত্যয় যুক্ত
‘মাপতে’ is formed from the Bengali verb root ‘মাপ-’ (to measure) and the infinitive/purposive ending ‘-তে’.

কোনো কিছুর দৈর্ঘ্য, প্রস্থ, উচ্চতা, ওজন, আয়তন বা পরিমাণ নির্ণয় করার কাজ বোঝাতে ‘মাপতে’ ব্যবহৃত হয়; অর্থাৎ ‘মাপা’ কাজটি করার উদ্দেশ্যে/প্রসঙ্গে
‘মাপতে’ is used to mean measuring—finding the length, width, height, weight, volume, or amount of something; i.e., in the sense of ‘to measure’ (purpose/context of performing the act).
