আরবি ‘مُعاملة’ (মুআমালা: লেনদেন/ব্যবহার) শব্দ থেকে ফারসি-উর্দুর মাধ্যমে বাংলায় ‘মামলা’ অর্থে ‘বিষয়/কারবার’ এবং পরবর্তীতে আইনগত ‘কেস/লিটিগেশন’ অর্থে প্রতিষ্ঠিত
From Arabic ‘مُعاملة’ (muʿāmala: dealing/transaction), entering Bengali via Persian-Urdu; it came to mean an ‘affair/matter’ and later became established in the legal sense of a ‘case/litigation’
Definition
আদালত বা সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষের সামনে কোনো অপরাধ, অধিকার-দাবি, ক্ষতিপূরণ বা বিরোধ নিষ্পত্তির জন্য যে আনুষ্ঠানিক অভিযোগ/আবেদন ও বিচারিক প্রক্রিয়া শুরু করা হয়, তাকে ‘মামলা’ বলা হয়; কথ্য ভাষায় ঝামেলা বা জটিল পরিস্থিতিকেও ‘মামলা’ বলা হয়
