ফারসি ‘خوشامد (খুশ-আমদ/খুশামদ)’ থেকে বাংলা ব্যবহারে এসেছে; অর্থ ‘স্বাগত/আনন্দদায়ক আগমন’ থেকে অর্থবিকাশ হয়ে ‘তোষামোদ/চাটুকারিতা’ অর্থে প্রচলিত

Borrowed from Persian ‘خوشامد (khushāmad)’, originally meaning ‘welcome/pleasant arrival’; through semantic shift it came to mean ‘flattery/sycophancy’ in Bengali usage

কারও অনুগ্রহ, সুবিধা বা স্বার্থ হাসিলের উদ্দেশ্যে অতিরঞ্জিত প্রশংসা, তোষামোদী আচরণ বা চাটুকারিতা প্রকাশকে খুশামদ বলা হয়
