‘আয়াত’ বলতে সাধারণত কোরআন শরিফের পৃথক পৃথক বাক্য/পঙ্‌ক্তি (verse) বোঝায়; প্রসঙ্গভেদে আল্লাহ্‌র কোনো নিদর্শন বা চিহ্নকেও ‘আয়াত’ বলা হয়

‘Āyāt’ commonly refers to an individual verse (a discrete sentence/line) of the Holy Qur’an; depending on context it can also mean a sign, token, or indication from God
