Origin & History
From the verb ship + the suffix -ment; ship comes from Old English scip (“ship, vessel”), related to German Schiff. Shipment developed in Middle English meaning “act of shipping” and later “goods shipped.”
क्रिया ship + प्रत्यय -ment से बना; ship की जड़ पुरानी अंग्रेज़ी scip (“जहाज़/नौका”) में है, जो जर्मन Schiff से संबंधित है। shipment का प्रयोग मध्य अंग्रेज़ी में पहले “भेजने की क्रिया” के अर्थ में हुआ और बाद में “भेजी गई वस्तुएँ/माल” के अर्थ में विकसित हुआ।
Definition
A shipment is a batch or consignment of goods that is sent from one place to another, usually by a carrier (truck, ship, air cargo, courier), and it can also mean the act or process of sending those goods.
शिपमेंट वस्तुओं का एक बैच/कंसाइनमेंट है जिसे एक स्थान से दूसरे स्थान पर (ट्रक, जहाज़, हवाई माल, कूरियर आदि) के माध्यम से भेजा जाता है; यह वस्तुएँ भेजने की क्रिया या प्रक्रिया को भी दर्शा सकता है।
