From Greek skeptikos (“inquiring, examining”), via Late Latin scepticus and French sceptique; the British spelling uses ‘sc-’ (contrast US ‘skeptical’).

Sceptical describes a person who doubts or questions claims and does not accept something as true without evidence; it can also refer to philosophical skepticism.
